Attendees:
John Camery, presiding
David Morse, PACE Chair
Danny Terlip, Select Engineering Services
Jong  K. Choi, Asst. Dean, UH-Manoa
Jason Axelson
Matthew Badeau
Al Toda

Nominations are due by the end of the month for the IEEE-USA STEM Award.  See the previous post on this topic in the blog.
Adrian Cogan who recently moved to Maui is our newest Membership Development Chair.  His email address is a.cogan@ieee.org.  We were informed that we can have a Membership Development Chair for each island.  So, let me know if you or someone you know would like to serve as a Membership Development Chair on one of the other islands.
Danny Terlip also recently moved here on Oahu.  So, we want to extend a hearty welcome to him from our Hawaii Section of the IEEE.
Our Computer Society Chapter is putting out a call for nominations, so we can elect new chapter officers by the end of the year.   John Camery is serving as chapter chair and David Morse is serving as vice chair for the chapter until the elections.  If anyone can help out by serving as an officer, please let us know.
One can join the computer society (www.computer.org) without joining the IEEE (www.ieee.org), but you must join the IEEE to serve as an officer.  Join up and make a difference.   This month new members can try out membership by signing up for the second half of the year.  Our Computer Society Chapter is planning a technical meeting for August.  So, stay tuned for details.  We need two meetings to meet the minimum requirement per year for a chapter and six to get the bonus funding. We need nominees for chair, vice chair, secretary and treasurer for our chapter election. Now is the time to get involved if you want to make a difference.
We announced our website development contest which is open to all our student members on Oahu and Maui.  The aim is to develop a better web presence for our Hawaii Section and chapters.  David Morse is organizing the contest.  Contact him for details at David.Morse@ieee.org.

We discussed the need to form a team in order to be in a position to put in a bid to host a conference in Hawaii.  Sept. 1, 2012 is the deadline for submitting a bid for hosting IEEE-USA 2015.  May 1, 2013 is the deadline for submitting a bid to IEEE GHTC 2014.  Once again, if anyone can help out let us know.

Various ideas were presented for technical meetings to satisfy our yearly requirements.  In particular, involvement with Makerspace groups like HI Capacity (http://hicapacity.org/) was discussed as being very mutually beneficial.  Two members of HI Capacity, Jason Axelson and Matthew Badeau, were in attendance.  We hope to sponsor joint meetings with them.  Also, ideas were presented by Song Choi to increase the involvement of student members in section and chapter meetings.   If anyone not in attendance has suggestions, please feel free to comment. Thanks.

Our next EXCOM meeting will be the first Monday of the month as usual.  That is 5:30PM on August 6, 2012 at Zippy's on Vineyard. Map.
