UH-Maui IEEE Student Innovation Day

On April 18, 2013 the Maui Chapter of the Hawaii Student Branch of the IEEE hosted the first
annual Student Innovation Day at the new Science Building on the University of Hawaii Maui College
campus. The Student Innovation Day was designed to exhibit the projects and talents of the students
enrolled in Maui College’s Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) Associated Arts
program and the Engineering Technology Bachelor of Applied Science program. Displays were set up in
the lobby of the Science Building to feature class projects and to set the stage for the event. Guests
were encouraged to investigate and interact with the displays. In the Optics Lab an optics experiment
and tutorial web site were presented. The day was capped off with a panel discussion of experts from
Maui’s technical and scientific community. Invitations were extended to members of Maui’s
educational, scientific and professional communities as well as to the public at large. Additionally, the
Maui Ham Radio club and the Maui Makers club were invited to talk about their organizations.
Attendance averaged 40 people during the 3 hour exhibition and 20 people remained for the panel
discussion. Refreshments were provided throughout the program.
