Minutes of Section Meeting

The Hawaii Section has decided that we should have at least one table at the Engineer's Week Awards Banquet this year.  Half the seats will be reserved for student members.  Members desiring to attend can reserve a place at the IEEE members' table on a first come, first serve basis via the announcement, https://meetings.vtools.ieee.org/meeting_view/list_meeting/16413,

The Hawaii Section has decided it will allocate $600 for  the Business Card Exchange again this year. Grant Torigoe and Colene Pekelo are working on the arrangements. The meeting will be scheduled 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, on 11 March, 2013 at the same location as last year.  Our Pace Chair, David Morse, will look into the possibility of PACE funding for the event. We want to encourage people in industry to attend. Our Vice Chair suggested that Lynn Fujioka of  isisHawaii should be invited to attend.

Region 6 is paying for the Section Chair, John Camery, to attend the Region 6 OPCOM Meeting in Las Vegas, 1-3 Feb., 2013. He should be back in time for the next Section EXCOM Meeting on 4 Feb., 2013. RSVP for the next Section EXCOM at https://meetings.vtools.ieee.org/meeting_view/list_meeting/16411. We are now scheduling technical talks immediately after EXCOM meeting. Future talks may include talks by the Vice Chair, Chris Russel, on biotech and further talks on graphene by the Chair.  Chapter Chairs wishing to schedule chapter technical talks in conjunction with Section EXCOM Meetings should contact the Section Officers to schedule this.

Dave Morse is looking into scheduling a STEM Meeting. It was mentioned that Katie Klinger is interested in working with the IEEE on STEM.  Dave Morse is encouraged to get in contact with her to see if we can arrange to have her speak at a Section meeting.

This is an important election year for the Hawaii Section.  The IEEE has instituted new term limits.  This means we need new candidates as most of our officers will be affected by these limits.  The Section and Chapters officers should read the new rules in Section 9.4 and 9.6 of the MGA Operations Manual.
