 (1) New members - Welcome!

Please join us in welcoming Barry C. Curl, Qihui Fan, Chi Fong Kuan,
and Courtney Kimie Won who have joined the IEEE this month.

Also, we want to welcome members who just moved to Hawaii and
encourage them to come out to our activities. Lester A. Iwamasa,
Ernest G. Booch, James F. McGill, Thomas Nelson Eichorn, Matt Kelly,
David Gordon Garmire and Wayne C. Kim have moved to the Hawaii Section
in the last month.

(2) NEW MTT-S Hawaii Student Chapter:


The IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society student chapter was
formed on September, 7, 2012 by the IEEE Student branch of the
University of Hawaii-Manoa, located in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Student
Branch should be commended for its initiative.

Chapter Officers

Chair: Andy Morishita, Vice-Chair: Kelson Lau, Secretary: Carolynn
Kitamura, Treasurer: Nicholas Fisher, Historian: Chester Ramos, and
Activities Director: Kainalu Matthews.

(3) Business Card Exchange - 5:30-8:30pm - March 11th:


This casual dinner event will be held at UH Manoa Campus Center and is
a wonderful opportunity to network with students and folks from the
business community. Come on out and share your business story with
aspiring young engineers and technology wizards. Feel free to share
job openings and internships at your company or in your industry.

(4) Join us at Engineer's Week Awards Banquet - 5:30pm February 23rd


The Hawaii Section will have at least one table at the Engineer's Week
Awards Banquet this year (purchasing additional based on demand). Half
of the seats will be reserved for student members.

(5) Which Virtual / Social Media do you recommend?:


As we endeavor to go virtual, the Section and Chapters will be testing
the social-media waters. We'll soon begin conducting meetings on the
net, announcing events and RSVP’ing on EventBrite or MeetUp,
connecting via LinkedIn (and maybe Facebook...).

So, what do you use? Which method of content delivery works best for
you? Do you WebEx? Would you like an active IEEE Hawaii forum? Feel

(5) Upcoming Elections and Open Positions

(* elections for Computer Society were this past December)

Non-elected Openings:


We'd like to thank Tep Dobry for his dedicated service as Student
Activities Chair. He is stepping down and this position is available.

We have a membership development chair on Maui. We are looking for
members willing to serve as membership development chairs on the other
islands.

If any member wishes to serve or has questions regarding the positions
or the election procedures, please contact the Section Chair, John
Camery, john.camery@ieee.org.

(7) Section Excom Meeting at Zippy's on Vineyard - 5:30pm Feb. 4th:

This is our monthly executive business meeting together with a
technical talk. It's an open meeting for IEEE members and guests. Come
out and help plan activities for the upcoming year and join in the
discussion.
