John has appointed me our Section PACE Chair. I look forward to
serving our Section and to hearing from members. Please let me know
how we can improve communication, enhance services, and foster
activities.
After two decades away from home, I'm very happy to be back in
Hawaii, living again in the town where I grew up. You can't beat
working with technology in paradise!

Garden Restaurant in Moiliili. Panel discussion - "on a new vision
for our section".
2. FREE-- EXCOM (Executive Committee) meeting at Vineyard Zippy's,
5:30pm, April 2nd, 2012, Monday.
3. The 55th Hawai‘i State Science and Engineering Fair (HSSEF) will
be held April 2-4, 2012, at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
4. Gain visibility for your humanitarian work and projects by
participating in GHTC 2012 in Seattle. Wouldn’t it be great, if next
year, we could host the conference, GHTC 2013, here on Oahu? Get in
touch with the Hawaii Section of IEEE and help make it happen.

5. We are always looking for volunteers, but right now, we are
specially looking for volunteers who are interested in taking an
active role in the Computer Society Chapter. Come to our meetings so
we can explore the possibilities.

our section", 9 April, 6:30pm, Maple Garden Restaurant in Moiliili.
We have gathered some previous and current volunteers and officers
to explain what volunteering means to them. Come and contribute your
ideas about what our local Hawaii IEEE Section should accomplish
during 2012 and 2013. The hope is that together we can realize the
vast potential latent in our organiztion.
Date/Time: Monday, 9 April 2012, 6:30pm dinner, 7pm panel Place:
Maple Garden Restaurant in Moiliili, 909 Isenberg Street.

Abstract: We are developing a vision of the Hawaii section of the
IEEE can accomplish in the next couple years. Our starting point is
the official one:
Mission Statement IEEE's core purpose is to foster technological
innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.
Vision Statement IEEE will be essential to the global technical
community and to technical professionals everywhere, and be
universally recognized for the contributions of technology and of
technical professionals in improving global conditions.
We want to bring our members together to incorporate their personal
goals into this vision leveraging the very considerable support
available from having the largest professional organization in the
world. There will be a short presentation by each member of a panel
followed by a QA session after the presentations. There are also
sign up sheets after the panel to indicate your preference so that
we can establish points of contact.

This is a meeting to plan and schedule events for the Hawaii IEEE
section. It's open to those interested in finding out what's
happening.

3. Chris Russell, our vice chair, has returned from a long tour in
Afghanistan in time to help out with the judging at the Hawai‘i
State Science and Engineering Fair(HSSEF). Each year we help support
the fair by providing IEEE awards to students in Senior and Junior
Research and their teachers. We have been fortunate to have Tep
Dobry serve as the IEEE POC. If anyone else can helping out, please
let us know.
