Noms 2012 on Maui

Here is your chance to attend a local conference. NOMS 2012 will be held 16-20 April 2012 at the Westin Maui hotel in Hawaii, USA. Held in even-numbered years since 1988, NOMS 2012 will follow the 24 years tradition of NOMS and IM as the primary forum for technical exchange on network management in terms of research, standards, development, systems integration, service provider, and user communities. NOMS 2012 will present up-to-date approaches and technical solutions for new management paradigms to deal with the new management issues in future infrastructures such as Web 2.0 or beyond service environments and cloud computing platform. NOMS 2012 will offer four types of sessions: technical, application, poster, and panel sessions.

Theme Songs

I searched for theme songs that we could use for our local section. Here is what I found.  Put your suggestions as comments below.

The official one for the IEEE Global Humanitarian Conference

The following song is about the singer trying to make contact with a person like him. A variety of electrical engineering metaphors are used. I like this one, but it is probably too much to expect everyone to learn a song in Swedish.

Hawaii Section Goals 2012-2013

What are your passions in life?  What would you like to achieve by joining forces with others in our professional society?  Let us know.  Add your goals to ours and help find others willing to work toward these same ends.  We are holding a special meeting April 9, 2012 to focus on this.  See our March newsletter for details.

Vision: Empowering Members to Create the Future. IEEE – Advancing Technology for Humanity

Background: We have 611 members in the Hawaii Section. Each Chapter/Affinity Group is required to hold and report a minimum of two (2) meetings annually to be considered active (and be included in the Section's Rebate).

Goals:

  • Host an IEEE Humanitarian Conference on Oahu
  • Revitalize the Computer Society Chapter
  • Revitalize the Communications Society Chapter
  • Establish a WIE affiliate group
  • Establish a life member affiliate group
  • Establish a Special Interest Group in Humanitarian Technology (Sight)
  • Organize additional Student branches.
  • Co-sponsor programs with other professional/technical organizations.
  • Conduct periodic Senior Member elevation events.

Monthly EXCOM Meeting

We meet the first Monday of each month at 5:30 P.M. at a table in the rear of Zippy's on Vineyard.  Just look for the people in picture above. Anyone wanting to become involved should come out and and meet us.  Here, we plan upcoming events for the Section here on the islands of Hawaii.  Make a difference by becoming active in the local events of the Section, Chapters and Affinity Groups here in Hawaii.

March 2012 Newsletter

Aloha!

I'm honored that Al asked me to take over this publication, and that
John has appointed me our Section PACE Chair. I look forward to
serving our Section and to hearing from members. Please let me know
how we can improve communication, enhance services, and foster
activities.

After two decades away from home, I'm very happy to be back in
Hawaii, living again in the town where I grew up. You can't beat
working with technology in paradise!

Please feel free to send your Chapter announcements and other
newsletter items directly to me for inclusion in our next update.

innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity.

Vision Statement IEEE will be essential to the global technical
community and to technical professionals everywhere, and be
universally recognized for the contributions of technology and of
technical professionals in improving global conditions.

We want to bring our members together to incorporate their personal
goals into this vision leveraging the very considerable support
available from having the largest professional organization in the
