Help Judge the 5th Annual Pan Pacific VEX Tournament

URGENT!!! SEEKING ADDITIONAL JUDGES for Pan Pacific VEX Tournament, February 22-24, 2013, Hawaii Convention Center

Aloha IEEE Hawaii Chapter Members,

We are currently looking for judges for the 5th Annual Pan Pacific VEX Tournament to be held at the Hawaii Convention Center between February 22 (Friday) to 24 (Sunday).  We would like to increase our pool of judges as our participation has been increasing (we are at 104+ teams this year from all over the world), and we expect that it may double as we are considering a two division tournament with a final "superbowl" for the following years.

If you can spare some time during the weekend of February 22-24, please consider volunteering as a JUDGE.  You may sign up for one or two days. Our needs are:

02/22 evening  -  gather for an informal information session at 6 pm; &
                         watch several 'preliminary' league matches.
02/23 8-5 pm  -   gather at 8 am for additional instructions; begin judging
at 9 am after opening ceremonies; award initial awards; &
                         conclude day around 5 pm.
02/24 8-5 pm  -   gather at 8 am for instructions; continuing judging from
the previous day; award all awards between breaks; &
conclude with final awards at closing ceremonies.

Please show interest in this grand effort in enhancing engineering awareness through the use of robotics and register through Ms. Arlene Yoshimura <arleney@hawaii.rr.com>.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Thank you.

NOTE:  Arlene will need your NAME, AFFILIATION, T-SHIRT SIZE, & CONTACT.

IEEE Budget for Humanitarian Projects

The Special Interest Group for Humanitarian Technology is looking for projects to finance. There is $160,000 for Class A projects which are those in the $40,000 grant size. There is $100,000 for those in the $2000- 40,000 dollar range. Finally, there is $90,000 for grants less than $2000.

Does anyone have an idea for a project to benefit the under-served elements of our society  either here in Hawaii or the third world?
