October Section Newsletter

Aloha and welcome to the October issue of the IEEE Hawaii Section Newsletter!
We have many opportunities for individuals to make a difference in
their communities and profession through the IEEE. The IEEE is 

staffed at the local level by volunteers. We need members willing  to 
step up  and volunteer to help us accomplish our mission.  Any 
IEEE member who might be willing to serve as an officer in the 
Hawaii Section is urged to contact our nominations chair:

1. New Members in the Hawaii Section:

We extend a hearty welcome to new members, Christopher Acosta,  

Collin Au, Kent Beck, Conrad Chong, Michael Dubiel, Jesse Fines, 
Matthias Fripp, Owen Fuellas, Jean Guzman-Vazquez, Sean Hara, 
John Holdaway, Stephen Mau, Robert Nakata, Erica Nana, 
Pavel Senin, Joshua Stanhiser, Fernan Suela, Ken Uchida, 
and Mark Hoffman who joined this month.

2.  Senior Member Elevation

4. Calendar of Activities:
* November 2-3 – IEEE Region 6  Meeting in Seattle 
(at the Seattle Airport Doubletree Hotel).

*Novemver 5 – Our Section's monthly EXCOM Meeting

This meeting, which starts at 5:30 pm (5 NOV 2013) at Zippy's on
Nimitz, is our  monthly EXCOM meeting. Anyone interested in serving as 

an officer for the upcoming year should try to attend or let John Borland 
know you are willing to serve.His email address is johnoborland@aol.com. 
We need candidates for Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.
It's an open meeting for IEEE members and guests, i.e., the general public.. 
Come out and help plan activities, esp., the election.  Please register using

Promotion for $30.00 off membership dues for 2014

UH-Manoa IEEE Student Branch will receive their award at the meeting.
They are to be honored as the Best Student Branch in the Central Area.

*October 1 – Our IEEE Day Celebration and Section ExCom Meeting

Nimitz, is our IEEE Day Celebration and monthly EXCOM meeting.

Take a trip over to Hilo and you'll find a technology oasis where
you can use the laser cutter, host websites, create in wood and get
business done on modern computers with professional software.
Individually, in project-groups, and via meetups like TechTuesday,
community members are learning and sharing. "Hawaii TechWorks is a
non-governmental, social enterprise organization working in East
Hawaii and surrounding communities."
